Rules, Rules Rules!

Okay, guys, we need to make a decision on the new rules recently published.
It seems that some drivers have been running 7/21 gear ratios in our Viper V-SPEC classes.

While the Viper V-SPEC platform was originally designed to run a 7/23 gear ratio, our legacy SJSCC "U-Build" rules did not specify a gear ratio limitation for the V-SPEC cars. The text of those rules did, however, imply that the class chassis was to be a Viper V-SPEC (V1) spec'd chassis. This "SPEC" chassis was specifically designed for HOPRA and UFHORA rules, which specifically limited the gear ratio to 7/23. And, the stock or factory gear set shipped with the standard V-SPEC (V1) chassis is, indeed, 7/23.

In any case, those that are running 7/21 ratios are requesting that we not adopt HOPRA (7/23) rules regarding gear ratio for the SPEC classes and allow driver/team choice regarding available gear ratio options.

So, we have three options here:
  1. Require drivers running 7/21 gear ratios to purchase new rear axle assemblies for each car not complying with the 7/23 HOPRA rules.
  2. Change our rules to allow gear ratio choice in the V-SPEC classes, which will certainly encourage drivers running the standard 7/23 gear ratio to purchase 7/21 rear axle assemblies to be more competitive going forward.
  3. Create a new, higher-performance class of the V-SPEC platform (SUPER STOCK) that allows flexibility in the selection of gear ratio and, perhaps, other components that increase performance and tuning options.
To resolve this situation I've put together a quick and simple survey for each of us to complete. Your response to the survey will decide how we resolve this particular rule debate.

Please complete and submit the survey as soon as possible. We have a race coming up this coming Saturday. You must have an account on the site to complete the survey. If you've forgotten your login information, please get or email me and I'll send you a link to reset your password.
