Last Call To Action Produced Crickets

Other than nearly everybody in our group at least doing a page view on the new forum content, it was pretty much crickets in terms of feedback.

The main idea behind the forum is to share ideas, and innovations, ask questions, get answers, and build a more cohesive, synergistic, and resourceful group through communicating with each other and the greater central coast slot car community as a whole. All this also helps grow our sport/hobby and the community.

In case you haven't noticed over the years, slot car racing is on the verge of extinction. If we don't start doing a better job of promoting the sport/hobby, it dies with us. A robust forum for our community is just one proven way of growing interest and participation in this way cool sport/hobby.

I know, there are a number of larger national forums out there that are great for sharing and getting answers to questions and staying in the loop on things. Yes, these sites are great. The difference is that most of the posts have very little synergy or relativity to what our local community is actually doing, feeling, or thinking.

We have a plethora of 1/24, 1/32, and 1/64 scale racing going on in northern and central California right now. We all know, even in the various scales, the groups are very disparate and isolated. A collective forum is one way to change that. Our rules are also disparate and unorganized. Actually, everything is unorganized!

Yes, some clubs and groups try to run cohesive programs but even the best do not achieve much unification, commonality of purpose, or synergies in the larger scope of things. This has been a big problem in slot car racing since I can remember. In today's "wired" world, there is simply no good excuse for this.

H.O. scale racing is especially susceptible to extinction because our older guys, who are actually the core of the sport/hobby today, are gravitating to the slower and easier to work on larger scales. Nothing wrong with that, it's basic human nature, and it's great for temporarily increasing the larger scale sport/hobby interest and community. But, trust me, it's temporary.

So, again, I'm making yet another call to action. Please take a closer look at the forum that is available today. It may not be the panacea we'd all be in love with forever, but it's a start. Check it out, and let me know what you think. Post a topic, reply, question, answer, article, how-to, review, or whatever. Help build it into a useful tool and platform for our sport/hobby. Whatever we do here can be transferred to a new and better platform, when necessary. My goal is to get it kickstarted. The end goal is to have something that works for all of us and continues to grow and benefit our sport/hobby.

Okay, for a little incentive, I'm offering the first member to reach "Active Member" status a new MegaG+, NC-2, PR-5, or TR-3 stock rolling chassis. You pick it out and send me the link.

What does it take to reach "Active Member" status? Just 5 points! You earn 2-points for a legit post, 1-point for a legit topic, and .5 points for a "Like." The shortest points chase in racing history!

Okay, shut up and drive!

New Community Forum

The last time I pushed a forum service, only two or three guys used it. Ended up shelving it since they tend to use a lot of server resources. This one can be used by the entire northern and central California track operators and racers.
